STUDIO CITY—On Saturday, July 27, the Los Angeles Fire Department announced they are investigating a Red Line Pedestrian Fatality. It was reported at 3:37 p.m. at 3901 Lankershim Blvd. near Universal City. Firefighters located a patient in the tunnel between Universal and North Hollywood.

The victim has been identified as a 30-year-old man. No additional details about the victim have been disclosed. The victim was beyond medical help and determined dead at the scene. The incident is being handed over to law enforcement and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

It is unknown how long this will affect the line. The public can follow @metorlosangeles for updates. There are no additional details about the incident disclosed to the public.

HOLLYWOOD HILLS—The Los Angeles Police Department announced on Thursday, March 21, they are currently investigating a felony hit-and-run collision that occurred in January.

Detectives with the LAPD West Traffic Division indicated on January 9, at 7:30 p.m., a black or dark gray Ford F-150 traveling westbound on Santa Monica Boulevard, crashed into a pedestrian that was within the crosswalk from the south curb of Santa Monica Boulevard, west of St. Andrews Place. The Ford F-150 continued traveling westbound on Santa Monica Boulevard to northbound Wilton Place, fleeing the scene without identifying themselves or providing aid to the pedestrian as required by law.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital for medical treatment. The victim is a 44-year-old resident of Los Angeles who is currently recovering from severe injuries to their face, torso, and legs. The investigation is ongoing.

Drivers are informed that if they become involved in a collision, they are to pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

Pedestrians are reminded to use caution when crossing the street and to always look both ways before proceeding as vehicles may or may not see people crossing the street, especially in hours of darkness.

SANTA MONICA—On March 11, the city of Santa Monica disclosed that the Santa Monica Police Department will conduct a bike and pedestrian safety operation on Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15.

The SMPD is conducting a Bike & Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operation with focused enforcement efforts on primary collision factors involving motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.

The Police Department identifies locations where pedestrian and bike collisions are prevalent, along with the violations that led to collisions. Traffic officers will be on duty patrolling areas where bike and pedestrian traffic and collisions occur in an effort to lower deaths and injuries. Officers will be looking for violations committed by drivers, bike riders and pedestrians alike, that can lead to life changing injuries. These violations include speeding, making illegal turns, failing to yield or provide right of way to bicyclists or pedestrians, or failing to stop for signs and signals.

These extra enforcement efforts will take place on March 14 and March 15 between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.

“We all have places to be and not everyone gets there by car. Bicyclists and pedestrians have the same rights to the road but face even more risk without the protections vehicles have. We should all be looking out for one another,” the SMPD stated.

Pedestrians

Be predictable. Use crosswalks, when available.
Take notice of approaching vehicles and practice due care.
Do not walk or run into the path of a vehicle. At 30 mph, a driver needs at least 90 feet to stop.
Be visible. Make it easy for drivers to see you – wear light colors, reflective material and carry a flashlight, particularly at dawn, dusk or at night.
Be extra careful crossing streets or entering crosswalks at night when it is harder to see, or when crossing busier streets with more lanes and higher speed limits.

Drivers

Follow the speed limit and slow down at intersections. Be prepared to stop for pedestrians at marked and unmarked crosswalks.
Avoid blocking crosswalks while waiting to make a right-hand turn.
Never drive impaired.

Bicyclists

Obey traffic laws, use hand signals, use lights at night (front white light and rear red reflector), and wear a helmet.
Bicyclists must travel in the same direction of traffic and have the same requirements as any slow-moving vehicle.
Avoid the door zone: do not ride too closely to parked cars.
If there’s a bike lane, use it, unless making a left turn, passing, or approaching a place where a right turn is allowed.
Yield to pedestrians. Bicyclists must yield the right-of-way to pedestrians within marked crosswalks or within unmarked crosswalks at intersections.

Funding for the program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

STUDIO CITY—On Sunday, March 10, the Los Angeles Police Department announced that they are searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian dead.

Valley Traffic Detectives indicated on February 7, around 6 p.m., a red sedan was traveling westbound on Ventura Boulevard near Fruitland Drive, when it collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the street west of Fruitland Drive. The driver of the sedan fled traveling westbound on Ventura Boulevard, failing to stop, identify themselves, or attempt to render aid to the pedestrian, as required by law.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The pedestrian was described as a White female in her 30s. Her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.

LAPD Valley Traffic Detectives are investigating and seeking the public’s help in locating the driver of the vehicle. If you were driving in the area of Ventura Boulevard and Fruitland Drive around 6 p.m., on February 7 or witnessed the collision they should contact Valley Traffic Detectives.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves. The public is informed that as pedestrians, they should exercise caution when crossing streets, obey traffic lights, cross within marked crosswalks, and obey the rules of the road.

On April 15, 2015, the Los Angeles City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.

SANTA MONICA—On Saturday, January 13, Lt. Erika Aklufi of the Santa Monica Police Department indicated in an email to Canyon News details about a fatal traffic collision that transpired.

On January 13, at approximately 1:50 a.m., officers responded to the scene of a fatal traffic collision in the 2900 block of Lincoln Boulevard. A vehicle was traveling southbound on Lincoln in the number one lane when it struck a pedestrian also traveling southbound in the roadway pushing a cart.

The pedestrian, a woman in her 50s who appears to be homeless, has not been identified. The coroner responded. The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators. There were no signs of impairment. The name of the public has not been disclosed to the public.

SANTA MONICA—Lt. Erika Aklufi of the Santa Monica Police Department send an email to Canyon News indicating that a traffic collision on Friday, September 29 left a pedestrian injured.

The SMPD indicated at approximately 8:34 a.m., officers were dispatched to the scene of a traffic collision with injuries at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Marguerita Avenue in Santa Monica.

A 64-year-old male pedestrian crossing westbound across Ocean Avenue was struck by a 2018 Toyota SUV traveling northbound. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The pedestrian sustained severe non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

HOLLYWOOD HILLS—West Traffic detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a pedestrian on Sunday, September 24.

The LAPD reported around 1:24 a.m., a 2022-2023 blue Chevrolet Corvette, traveling southbound on La Brea Avenue, possibly racing a white sedan, crashed into a male pedestrian at the intersection of La Brea Avenue and Sunset Boulevard.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and provided aid to the victim, who later died at the scene. The name of the victim has not been disclosed to the public.

The driver of the Chevrolet Corvette fled the scene without identifying themselves and/or providing aid. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, but it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were involved. The investigation is ongoing.
